Ebbsfleet United edge out Chelmsford City to seal promotion

<![CDATA[After suffering play-off heartache at the end of last season, Ebbsfleet United came back even stronger this year to earn promotion in dramatic fashion.

It proved to be third time lucky for Fleet fans, who had seen their side suffer defeat in each of the previous two finals at Stonebridge Road.

With an hour gone, however, the dream looked beyond Daryl McMahon’s men as they trailed 1-0 and had a player sent off.

But two quick-fire goals in the last quarter of the match gave Ebbsfleet something to hold on to, defending desperately for eighteen painstaking minutes before the referee eventually blew the final whistle.

Pandemonium then ensued in the stands as the Kent-based outfit secured National League status courtesy of goals from Dave Winfield and Darren McQueen.

A number of Sykes Pumps’ staff were in the ground to witness the action first hand and were delighted to see their commercial partners achieve the pre-season target of promotion.

We would like to congratulate Ebbsfleet on a remarkably successful campaign on the pitch and hope that next season provides an opportunity for the club to take another significant step forward.]]>
