<![CDATA[It’s safe to say Storm Doris has had a profound effect on the country over the past 48 hours, with 80mph winds leaving many homes without power, causing severe travel disruption and even flight cancellations.
Here at Andrews Sykes, we’re used to helping people counteract the weather – particularly when it’s hot and cold – but even we were powerless on this occasion.
In fact, there is little doubt that we as a company felt the wrath of Doris. Or, to be more specific, one of our call-out vehicles did!
An Andrews Sykes engineer visited a customer site in the Bedfordshire area and was conducting an assessment of the project while the gale was in full swing. Upon returning to his parked van, he became aware of a tree looking increasingly vulnerable before it eventually began falling in his general direction.
Fortunately, he was able to evade the toppling tree in good time and escape without so much as a scratch. However, the same could not be said for the automobile he had arrived in just minutes earlier!
Tools were salvaged from the storage area, but it seems difficult to imagine the van being deemed road-worthy in the near future!
Despite the obvious inconvenience, there was at least some good news. As Andrews Sykes operate a genuine 24-hour service from our comprehensive depot network, we were able to arrange for another member of staff from a nearby depot to collect the stranded driver within a short time of the initial problem coming to light!]]>
